Getting into computer security field?

I just read an excellent answer by a person named Jim,excellent answer to the question posed Jim!You give great answers!Please feel free to answer any question i ask.
I am wondering however why he(if you are reading Jim please answer) stated that A+ cert is no good?? Almost everyone on the planet wants this cert..It shows them you know a lot more than know how to surf the web.
Getting A+ certified is the foundation for anyone starting down a career path in computers,in my opinion.
I am interested in eventually getting into the computer security field..So i am starting out with COMPTIA A+,NETWORK +, Security + and SERVER+….I am studying privately at this moment for all of them..
Am I on the right path by gaining these certifications?
I am aiming high,and want to have high marks on every test..Would anyone know of some good free on line training or better yet if anyone has materials they are done with please email me…
Any other suggestions would be greatly apreciated?

    Beside certifications you have to read online blogs and register your self in some security forums to keep in touch with latest technologies and news.
