computer system analyst?

March 17th, 2009

Hi every one,
just wonder if management information system is the best major for this job? Or I have to major in Computer Engineering in order to have better technical skill?
Is bachelor degree good enough for me to find a job right after I graduate? Or I have to pursue M.A to make myself a competitive candidate?
Is interpersonal communication skill extremely important for this kind of job? Do you have to interact a lot with people?
Lastly, these days, I’ve heard a lot about outsourcing in technology and computer fields. I don’t know if computer system analysts are also outsourced, too?
I’ve just heard of this career, so I hope that you guys who know a lot about this field can provide me some basic knowledge about its outlook, salary, and training.
Thanks a lot.

Is there workout software that will give you a weekly workout based on your one rep max?

March 17th, 2009

When i took a weight training class in high school we determined our one rep max for each exercise and put the info into a computer program and were then able to print a several week workout for how many reps of how much weight for which exercises each day.

Does anyone know of similar software?

Would Like Some Info On What Qualifications Needed To Work For In Home Computer Support Companies?

March 17th, 2009

I’ve seen ads for such companies as Geek Squad and Make It Work in home computer support companies. I think this is a much needed service they provide and they do software and hardware support, repairs and troubleshooting. I have been to some of the websites, but there doesn’t seem to be much info about what training a tech needs to work for companies like these. Do you need an IT or computer science degree or do the companies train their own people?

Anyone can respond with their experience and knowledge, Thanks for your help

Does quality tend to disappear from computer projects ?

March 15th, 2009

change a field from signed to unsigned, to save a small amount of memory.

allow the program tape to be recorded onto, supposedly onto blank training tape. (curiously the intended code to do the recording is mysteriously replaced by other code that overwrites the program)
To daxbert:

I. Person in question made a special appointment with the document custodian for the project. (Someone had had the foresight to ensure there was a secure copy of documentation -presumably to prevent this sort of foolery). So the secure copy was doctored, changed from signed to unsigned.
Later on it was realised the original design was correct, the signed field was needed.
What kind of person would bypass existing procedures to save memory.
Person in question is named Sandra White. May be still on the job. (this was 1979 in Canberra)

II. Program tape for a submarine.
Some fool decided to use the program tape as black box recorder.
Unbelievable stupidity.
Funny coincidence that the planned code change wasn’t the one that was issued. Hard to see how it could get worse than the stupidity of writing on the program tape. But it did. The code change, intended to allow writing, corrupted the tape. Culprits are presumably still on the job, raking in $$$
I never suggested there was a memory saving, or any sort of saving.

How to get started becoming a computer programmer?

March 15th, 2009

A good friend of mine got a BS degree in computer science, and has been searching for a job where he can use his degree, with no success for a year now. He can read, write, and understand various programming techniques and algorithms
Trained in Turbo C++, Visual C++ (Console Only), and Delphi. I am concerned about him because he is broke all the time, and all the jobs he can find are like housekeeping and things like that. He lives in ND. Does anybody have any suggestions that I can pass on to him as to how and where to look for the job he wants?

What credentials do I need to join the Geek Squad?

March 14th, 2009

I know computers inside and out, I’ve been a professional technician (electronics, communication) for the past seven years, I’ve had A+ training (haven’t taken the test yet though), I’m used to dealing with customers in their homes, and I have good people skills. What more would I need to do to get hired?
Also, I’d appreciate it if you’d tell me a typical geek squad salary if you know it, since I can’t find that info anywhere.
